Cultivate presents HARVEY & WORRALL at WALL & JONES…

This week Cultivate continues roaming around and popping up in all kinds of interesting exciting alternative places and spaces. Following on from recent Cultivate shows at BSMT Space and that Fount railway arch adventure, as well as that 43 minute thing under the railway bridge, this week Cultivate will take over a treasure chest of a two floor space here in East London   Well not so much a take over as a fitting in alongside all the treasure that’s already in that wonderful space.

Wall and Jones is a former tailors shop on the main Hackney Road, London E2, (directly over the road from the Hackney City Farm on he boarders of Broadway Market and Columbia Road Flower Market). Harvey and Worrall shall be presenting some recent paintings and pieces alongside all the colourful fabric, the dressmaking, the handmade jewellery that’s produced in the glorious space, all the vintage treasure, the Edwardian pop art, the velvet, the silk, the sewing machines and the Victoriana. Come find paintings hanging in and around the two floors of treasure next weekend.

Cultivate at the 2016 BRICK LANE ART CAR BOOT FAIR

Once again Sean Worrall and Emma Harvey (Cultivate founders) will be joined by a couple of selected guest artists in out “boot” at one of the art year’s most exciting London events.

This year we have the pleasure of inviting our regular collaborating duo of word-smiths Quiet British Accent and London’s currently rather buzzing contemporary street art flavoured social commentator Skeleton Cardboard. Cultivate has always been about bring through new names, so we are particularly pleased to introduce Mr Cardboard to the Art Car Boot Fair crowds.

Sean Worrall will be producing a series of 43 small canvas pieces, a numbered series of paintings called “Sometimes They Have Thorns (Small Ones)”, each an original painting on canvas, each one numbered, signed and on sale at £10 each and each one featuring the evolving ‘leafheart’ tag that is Sean’s signature.  Once again there will be what has now become the traditional One Hundred Pieced Piece for the Art Car Boot Fair from Sean Worrall. A One hundred Pieced Piece has been produced exclusively for the Brick Lane Art Car Boot Fair for the last four years, a piece painted in one hundred parts on recycled pieces of cardboard, each piece numbered and signed and on sale at £1 a part with the intention of the art being accessible to everyone, especially to kids experiencing buying original art and encountering artists for the first time (the Art Car Boot Fair is all about interaction)

Emma Harvey will have some of her recent series of hand painted beautifully detailed vintage 78rpm record sleeves at the fair. We believe the Art Tart might well make an appearance with her delicious art tart cake paintings, badges and more again this year. The Art Tart cream cakes and jam tarts only ever come out for the Art Car Boot Fair (and she might have something to do with Emma Harvey’s slightly mischievous alter ego? We can’t confirm that though).

BLUE ART LIST Press Release 14: JOHN LEE BIRD, BEFORE ENCORE 6…

John Lee Bird marks ten years of his before encore project with an exhibition of 36 new portraits documenting London’s mercurial creative counter-culture at 20th Century Theatre

before encore is an ongoing portraiture project in which seminal London artist John Lee Bird documents the influential performers, muses, designers, musicians, poets and artists who exist within the creative spaces between marginal and mainstream popular culture.

2016 sees before encore enter its tenth year and 14th-15th June sees a two day exhibition at London’s 20th Century Theatre of the latest 36 portraits representing a diverse subculture of London’s performance/club/queer/music DIY/art scenes.

“It never occurred to me that before encore would still be ongoing after ten years, or that it would take on such a documentary importance in terms of recording what the outsider creative scene looked and felt like at different times. The whole project has gradually defined its own purpose, identity & relevance during the process of creating it, and that feels absolutely, perfectly appropriate given the subject matter,” says Bird.

The exhibition will be a riotous celebration of not only John Lee Bird’s work but also his subjects, with countless musicians & performers from the latest portraits taking the stage, as well as a number of surprise guests from previous series’ of before encore.

“I’ve painted many people who are now household names as part of before encore, but it has never been a predictive project. It’s never been a snapshot of the biggest deals at the time, but a representation of how the period felt – the energy, the direction, the possibilities – how that felt to me at the time, through the faces that were there. Yes, there are lots of performers, artists & musicians but there are also bar staff & club kids, because they were as much a part of how everything felt at that point in time.”

The exhibition, which is free and unticketed, runs from 6pm-11pm on Tuesday 14th June & from 12pm-11pm on Wednesday 15th with live performances from 7pm on both nights. Musicians & artists confirmed to perform include Madam, Mikkokoo, The Black Site, Catmilk, Chicken, Sam Amant, Bete Noire, Campbell L Sangster, Thom Shaw, Dale Cornish, Marisa Carnesky, The Budda Cakes, Mr Teds, Timberlina & Oozing Gloop as well as a number of surprise guest appearances.

John Lee Bird’s work is defined by his distinctive use of line; influenced by pop art and 1950’s instruction and medical manuals yet entirely more detailed and personable. He uses diagrammatic line to make intensely human studies; whether the object be a portrait or a more abstract vision of matters of the human condition. More from the Blue Art List, today we bring you news of what we think will be a rather exciting East London show of paintings in a rather different rather exciting environment

London-based artists Emma Harvey and Sean Worrall are to present a collection of paintings in and around the treasure to be found within Wall & Jones.

Wall & Jones is the home of a small group of designers working and creating within a beautiful old tailor’s shop on the busy Hackney Road, a treasure trove of a space that has been transformed into a cabinet of curiosities, housing the two designers’ latest collections in an aesthetic of Victorian tatter

Harvey and Worrall will share the space with Wall and Jones for a weekend at the end of May, the two artists will hang a collection of recent paintings in and around the creations of the in-house designers, the hand made clothing, the fabrics, the colour, the silk, the linen, the old flags and prints, the jewellery and the curios to be found in the packed shop space and the treasure-filled basement downstairs.
